What is Antrope?
Antrope provides services within applied anthropology. Antrope targets legal experts and others within or related to the family courts, for analysis and cultural mapping. Antrope also does lectures of various kinds. The scope of Antrope is to offer analysis and knowledge. There is a need for more cultural knowledge in the family courts field. Antrope presents an unique insight into what cultural and religious backround means for the families involved.
Social anthropology - literally the knowledge of people in society - means being able to analyze people, words and events with sensitive curiosity as well as having a heavy empirical and theoretical backround. Those who has majored in social anthropology have personally planned and conducted one year of fieldwork/interviews and written a monography.
Antrope works with among others Kulturpsykologisk institutt and Van der Weele AS.
Antrope is lead by social anthropologist Marit V. Rasmussen. She majored from the University of Bergen in 2005 and have since had a variety of jobs. One of her interests is violence, neglect and the child protection services ("barnevernet"), especially in regard to minority families (one or both parents originating from outside of Scandinavia). She is currently writing an article on analfabetism, and how knowing how to read and write relates to being a good enough parent!
She is also interested in religion; her education prior to master includes comparative religion, gender studies and ethnology/cultural science. She wrote her bachelor essay on the problem of the "tragedy of the commons" (Garett Hardin) and how it can be avoided. She did her master thesis on the field of transexualism in a Norwegian context, "Å gjøre kjønn", which can be found electronically in the BORA archive. In her master thesis, she combined the theories of Fredrik Barth and Judith Butler to explore the notion of performativity and the social entrepeneur. She also explored the legal notion of gender and wrote a comparason of in between gender roles around the world. Since, she has travelled to different parts of Turkey and has started on her Turkish studies. She is fluent in English and also speaks German. She has worked for a health NGO as well as with a company of legal experts, where she got her training as as interview assistant. For a full introduction to her backround, please view her profile on LinkedIn.
